Autumn teaching
Cognitive psychology is the scientific study of the mechanisms of the mind.
This module will give a broad overiew of cognitive psychology. Topics may include:
- perception
- attention
- memory
- language
- thinking.
You’ll explore how these core cognitive functions may be disrupted as a result of clinical conditions or differ across individuals.
You’ll deepen your understanding of cognitive psychological research, based on academic readings. You’ll practice the evaluative and creative problem-solving skills needed to devise cognitive psychological research and to discuss its theoretical and real-world importance.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
