Safeguarding Panel
Information about the Safeguarding Panel and its Terms of Reference.
Key role
The Safeguarding Panel is responsible for overseeing the University-wide compliance framework relating to safeguarding matters to ensure a consistent approach to safeguarding across the University.
The Terms of Reference
The intention of the Terms of Reference is:
a) to oversee and assess the adequacy of the compliance framework in place across the University for safeguarding matters
b) to maintain oversight of the University-wide safeguarding arrangements and to ensure such arrangements enable compliance with the University’s Safeguarding Policy and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
c) to set safeguarding expectations for third-party partnership arrangements (both academic and commercial partners)
d) to maintain oversight of relevant information, guidance and training shared with members of the University.

Membership:
- General Counsel & Director of General Counsel Governance and Compliance (GCGC) (Chair)
- Director for the Student Experience
- Executive Director for Human Resources
- Head of School, Education and Social Work.
Co-opted (as required):
- The Chair may co-opt members with particular expertise as required.
In attendance:
- Director of Human Resources, Institute of Development Studies
- Assistant Director of Student Experience, International Study Centres, UK & Europe
- Senior Legal Counsel
- Head of Research Ethics Integrity & Governance
- Head of Wellbeing, Therapeutic & Residential Life Services
- Governance and Compliance Senior Manager (Secretary).
Frequency of meetings
Termly (three times per year).
Reporting line
Reports to the Risk Management Board, the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) and Council, as the Governing Body of the University.
Quorum
The meeting is considerate quorate when two of the four members are present.
